Local Matters: NE Appalachia

As the nation’s largest natural gas producer, we’re working to expand opportunities in the local communities where we operate.

August 2025

Operational Update

On July 29, Expand Energy reported its 2025 Q2 financial and operating results. To learn more, see our news release and presentation.

“Expand Energy was created to make a more durable and efficient business,” said Nick Dell’Osso, Expand Energy’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are delivering more for less, outperforming every expectation set when we announced our merger, including an approximate 50% increase to run-rate synergies. Importantly, our outperformance is repeatable, achieving approximately 30% more free cash flow in 2025 and approximately 20% more in 2026 compared to our expectations at the beginning of the year. This significant improvement further demonstrates how our culture of continuous improvement creates value for our shareholders.”

Employee Spotlight

Get to Know John Fager, Staff Operations Analyst – Northeast Appalachia

John is an 18-year company veteran with a knack for all things data.

How do you describe your role to your family or neighbors?
I’d describe myself as a professional ‘data wrangler’ — someone who finds, collects, organizes and presents data in ways that help others work more efficiently. Using Excel and other data tools, I support my colleagues in identifying synergies and opportunities for improvement.

Before joining the company, I taught middle and high school students and I bring that passion for teaching and learning into my current role. I focus on introducing more efficient tools and processes for routine tasks, with the ultimate goal of helping others discover better ways to do their work.

What drew you to the oil and natural gas industry and how have you seen it evolve?
When I was teaching, I was fortunate to have met a Southwestern Energy employee who shared my passion for data. A month after we met, I had an offer for a position at the company. I wish I could say I had a lofty ambition to join the industry, but honestly, it was about providing a better life for my three college-aged kids.

Over 18 years, I’ve seen huge changes: natural gas prices dropping from $9+/Mcf to $3+/Mcf and operational efficiencies improving dramatically — from multiple drill bits and 17 days to drill 4,000 ft, to a single bit drilling 30,000 ft in under six days. We’ve become far more efficient in the field and the office. What hasn’t changed is the people — their willingness to tackle any problem and find solutions. People have always been the company’s greatest asset.

What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy playing video games, cooking, woodworking and building furniture and spending time with my family. My kids and their children live in three different states, Indiana, Texas and California. I love traveling to visit and spend time with them.

In the Community

During the past quarter, Expand Energy’s employees have been active members of their community, supporting a number of initiatives in our operating areas. Highlights include:

  • Partnering for Tree Planting: Expand Energy sponsored and volunteered with the Bradford County Conservation District to support the organization’s Earth Day event. Prior to the event, our team bundled and organized thousands of seedlings for distribution. At the event itself, Expand Energy volunteers passed out the seedlings to encourage local planting (pictured below).
  • Empowering Exceptional Athletes in our Community: Our team volunteered with Unity, Neighborliness, Charity and Opportunity (UNICO) to help support their Exceptional Athletes vent at Athens High School. The event brought together members of our community and athletes of all skill levels and abilities to play games and do various arts and crafts projects. Our team was hands on all day, assisting with event setup, helping to run activities throughout the day, work the concession stand and clean up at the conclusion of the event.
  • Training with Local Fire and First Responders: Two of our NE App team members, John Corbin and Floyd Parrish, met with members of the Wyalusing Fire Department on our pad site for on-site first responder training.

Sustainability Feature

Expand Energy recently published its 2024 Sustainability Report, highlighting how we’re driving energy security through responsible, domestic energy production. This report shares our commitments, but more importantly, it allows you to review our sustainability-related progress and performance in our first year.
