The SW App Facilities Construction team recently marked a major milestone — eight years without a recordable injury. The group, comprised of nine employees who coordinate the daily work of 50 to 100 individuals across multiple sites, has worked hard to create a culture built around collaborative and safe operations.
“This achievement is the product of thousands of safe decisions, from double-checking rigging and verifying isolation points to keeping work areas clean and speaking up when something doesn’t look right. Pre-job planning plays a big role too, with the team taking time to think through hazards before work begins,” said Sam Hirtz, SW App Maintenance Superintendent. “The team takes immense pride in our work because the quality of what we build directly impacts safe and reliable production.”
The Facilities Construction team is responsible for building and commissioning the facilities that make production possible. While many see a completed facility, what often goes unseen is the level of planning, problem solving and teamwork required to get there. Strong coordination with groups like Facilities Engineering, Drilling and Completions, Water Operations and HSER is critical, especially when working within the tight footprint of a pad site.
When each day and project looks different than the last, one thing is clear — trust runs deep within this team. Facilities Construction and its business partners function as a cohesive team, sharing lessons learned, auditing activities together and engaging in safety meetings with a common goal of making sure everyone goes home the way they arrive.
Hirtz added, “Eight years without a recordable injury proves what’s possible when a team commits to safety, supports each other and refuses to cut corners. By taking it one day at a time and bringing our best each day, I’m confident we’ll continue to raise the bar.”
