John brings a unique set of skills to his role overseeing produced water operations in the Haynesville, where he and his team manage everything from facility operations to commercial agreements. A former PGA golf professional and logistics expert, he now channels that passion into leading the Expand Energy Charity Classic — the largest charity golf tournament in the Haynesville Basin.

How did you get into the energy industry, and what brought you to Expand Energy?
I was working for Lowe’s Home Improvement in their supply chain division, managing transportation for more than 100 stores across Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. I got a call from a recruiter in southwestern PA who covered our SW App operating area asking me to apply for a role out of the Tunkhannock, PA office. After learning more about the industry and meeting the team in Tunkhannock, I was really intrigued, so I gave it a shot. I stayed in the SW App area for about five years, managing logistics and produced water for our area locations. In 2022, I relocated from Pennsylvania to Louisiana to continue growing in my role and I’ve been in the area with my family ever since.

Walk me through a typical day — how would you describe your job to a neighbor?
No two days look quite the same. On any given one I might be dealing with saltwater disposal facility operations, produced water management, vendor relationships, commercial agreement negotiations, safety meetings, employee development, and a lot of internal collaboration. I’m fortunate to have a great team — we work together to anticipate and get ahead of the challenges in our part of the business. I’m fortunate to have a great team that works to stay ahead of the challenges we face, and thankful for a Haynesville leadership team that prioritizes safety in every decision.

You played an important role in executing the Expand Energy Charity Classic. How did you first get involved and why do you enjoy it?
Golf is a passion of mine — earlier in my career I was a PGA golf professional at clubs in Florida and North Carolina. We convened a committee to plan the first Annual Expand Energy Charity Classic filling out all available slots, totaling 288 teams. For this year’s second annual Charity Classic were incredibly proud to raise nearly $375,000 to Oilfield Helping Hands, supporting oilfield workers and their families facing financial hardship, and The Community School in Shreveport, providing educational and therapeutic programs for children with autism and other developmental differences.

What makes the day special is the incredible sponsor support that makes us the largest charity golf tournament in the basin. Our business is fast-paced and high-pressure, so it’s wonderful to see all the fellowship and camaraderie the event creates. This year’s tournament was another huge success and wouldn’t have happened without the help of the committee that poured months of work into pulling it off.

This summer, Expand Energy hosted 29 interns across the company in departments including Operations, Engineering, Accounting and Information Technology.
