Get to Know Superintendent of Field Services, Don Blumenauer

Don has spent his career watching projects take shape from the ground up — starting in computer-aided design (CAD) and conceptual well pad design before moving into the field as a Construction Superintendent. Today he oversees pad development across NE App and has been an integral part of the Expand Energy Charity Classic since its first year.

How did you get into the energy industry, and what brought you to Expand Energy?
I got my start in the industry in 2011.  My background was in CAD, so I began with well pad conceptual design, surveys, pad layout planning and GIS mapping — work that gave me a better understanding of how projects are developed and built from the ground up. In 2019, I moved into a Construction Superintendent role, which let me spend more time in the field managing projects and working directly with contractors and operations teams. I’ve always enjoyed problem-solving and collaborating with people, so it was a natural fit. We’re lucky at Expand Energy to have a great group of people, and the collaboration across teams is one of the things I appreciate most — it’s rewarding to work alongside talented folks who are committed to doing things safely, efficiently and the right way for our communities.

Walk me through a typical day — how would you describe your job to a neighbor?
Every day brings a unique and interesting challenge, which is one of the things I enjoy most. As Superintendent of Field Services, I manage our pad development program — new well pad construction, pad expansions and site reclamation projects. I also supervise our Construction Services, Water and Midstream teams. I help make sure projects are done in coordination with teams across our operating area and that we’re working safely and efficiently in everything we do.

You’ve been really involved in the Expand Energy Charity Classic. How did you first get involved and why do you enjoy it?
I’ve been involved with the Expand Energy Charity Classic for the past 14 years, and it’s been rewarding to watch it grow into one of our company’s signature community events. What started as a way to bring together employees, business partners and community organizations has become an event that makes a real impact across our operating area. This year was especially exciting because we “Expanded” to a two-flight format to accommodate the overwhelming support from our sponsors and partners.

The day starts early with registration and breakfast for the morning flight, followed by a full day of golf, sponsor booths, contests, raffles, great food and lots of chances to connect with people from across the industry, in the afternoon we get to do it all again. Together with our sponsors, vendors, employees and volunteers, we raised more than $149,000 to support the Wyoming County Community Health Foundation’s EMS initiatives and multiple food banks in the counties where we operate. What I enjoy most is seeing everyone come together around a common goal, knowing the funds raised will make a real difference in the communities we call home.

Summer Internship Program Fuels Tomorrow’s Talent

This summer, Expand Energy hosted 29 interns across the company in departments including Operations, Engineering, Accounting and Information Technology. In the Community

During the past quarter, Expand Energy’s employees have been active members of their communities, supporting charitable initiatives in our operating areas. Highlights include:

• ‘On the Green’ for a Good Cause: The Expand Energy Charity Golf Classic
  On May 21, our Sayre office hosted its second annual Expand Charity Golf Classic. The event brought together members of our community to raise funds for the Wyoming County Community Health Foundation, which is working to rebuild emergency medical services across a county that lost its hospital and local emergency care center. The Foundation is helping transition the county’s largely volunteer EMS department to paid staffing, increasing EMT education and putting new ambulances on the road. The remaining proceeds from the event were donated to food banks across our operating area. Thank you to all the sponsors!
• Cheering on Exceptional Athletes 
  Members of the Expand Energy team spent the day at the Athens High School football stadium volunteering with Unity, Neighborliness, Integrity, Charity and Opportunity (UNICO), an organization that supports people with mental and physical challenges across our community. During the Exceptional Athletes event, our employees set up games, helped with crafts and snacks, and worked the concession stand to serve students from various school districts as they enjoyed a day of athletic events and games.
• Celebrating Earth Day with Seedling Giveaway
  Expand Energy volunteers helped the Bradford County Conservation District prepare seedling bundles for its annual Earth Day celebration, organizing orders so thousands of young trees were ready to go home with local families. On Earth Day, additional members of our team distributed the seedlings with care instructions, encouraging successful plantings and the next generation of tree growth.
