Honoring Earth Day with Trout Stocking and Creek Cleanup in West Virginia

April 23, 2026

This Earth Day, Expand Energy employees rolled up their sleeves and put on their waders for a hands-on day of environmental stewardship in Wheeling, West Virginia.

For the 4th year in a row, Expand Energy volunteers partnered with the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, 5th graders from a local elementary school and other community partners to clean up trash along the banks of Big Wheeling Creek and stock more than 4,000 pounds of trout into the waterway.

In the days leading up to the event, Expand Energy employees visited Elm Grove Elementary to educate the 5th graders ahead of the stocking.

Students got a hands-on lesson in trout biology, learning what makes them a unique and important species in the region. The team further brought these lessons to life by using live fish to demonstrate how the species survives and thrives in nature.

The visit also gave the team an opportunity to share how Expand Energy approaches environmental stewardship and the real work the company does to protect local ecosystems.

“Expand Energy is proud to collaborate in this project again because we believe in taking care of the spaces that bring our community together,” said Expand Energy Community Affairs Manager, Stephanie Paluda. “It’s about more than just picking up trash — it’s about showing respect for our environment and helping preserve a natural resource that our community enjoys.”
